Paw Pet

The Furry Tales visited Paw Pet-radize a few months ago on a quiet evening. It was not our first time there, but it was our first since it had been renovated.

Our dogs appreciated the fact that there was more space than before. More space to run about and play, and more space to pose for pictures.

paw-1

Do we get some treats?? (L to R: Junior, Hyper, Olive, Kafka, Lulu, Lucy.)

We also loved the newly revamped menu. The kimchi bowl and cheese fries were quite yummy. Kafka stared at us while we ate and Olive gave us her signature poor sad puppy eyes from under the table. She may or may not have gotten some cheese fries.

paw-5

I’m head of the table. Shouldn’t I get food first?

I…need….fries…

We bumped into Instagram friends @somewhitecookie and @mangothesheltie. Lucy and Cookie were forced to pose together, but Cookie didn’t seem very happy about sitting beside strange girls so he turned his back on her.

paw-18

Cookie prefers to speak to familiar friends instead of Lucy. Poor girl.

As much as we love cafes that allow our dogs to be by our sides, it is also fun to dine at an actual pet cafe where you can enjoy your meal knowing your dog is also having a good time offleash.

Paw Pet-radise Cafe is located at 530 Balestier Road, Monville Mansion #01-07, Singapore 329857. Parking is available at HDB flats nearby. Closed on Tuesdays (open Mon, Wed, Thu 5pm-11pm, Fri 5pm-1am, Sat 12pm-1am, Sun 12pm-11pm). Cash only.

Ten Japanese Cafe & Bar

The Furry Tales gang recently had breakfast at a new cafe along our home ground, Robertson Quay.  Another dog-friendly cafe to add to our list!

dog-4

L to R: Kafka, Lulu, Muddy, Twinkle, Lucy and Olive.

Ten by Japanese restaurant Marusaya recently opened and they serve up a great breakfast set. A little pricey but at S$20 nett, you get two slices of either cheese toast or croissant with a salad, sausages/ham, eggs with truffle oil (mmmm), a Japanese-style vegetable side with corn and bacon, and a side of fruit. You also get a choice of yoghurt or Yakult plus a cup of tea/coffee. It was quite yummy. If you just want something lighter, there is also a S$10 breakfast toast with coffee/tea set.

This part of Robertson Quay is sheltered so it is a good option for us to hang out at with our dogs away from the sun. It is spacious enough for the six dogs and we don’t have to worry about too many people walking by and disturbing our dogs. It is also very quiet in the mornings as the cafes next to Ten are closed. Sometimes we use the area to train our dogs.

Pets Welcome, Humans Tolerated at Green Door Bar!

Contributed by Sisi Soh
Recently, we brought Lucy to Green Door Bar, located at the popular and hip Dempsey Hill. We’d seen an Instagram post announcing “Pets Welcome” so we were excited to try someplace new.

Dempsey-8-2

Spot Lucy: Green Door welcomes me!

Green Door is the perfect place for a before or after dinner drink and snack in an open air space, where you can enjoy the garden atmosphere surrounded by foliage. Their indoor and outdoor setting have a rustic charm to it, and the best part about it are the big fans that are placed around their tables. Let’s face it, as much as we want to enjoy alfresco dining in Singapore, it is usually too hot! The fans were a major plus point.

Dempsey-12

I love this place! So much green…

When we arrived, Lucy was immediately offered a bowl of water which we really appreciated. Not many places make our beloved pets feel welcome. Even the menu welcomes them!

          Pets are welcome!Humans tolerated!

We didn’t try their alcohol but heard that their signature cocktails use fruits and herbs that are freshly grown from their garden. We shared a basket of truffle fries which were quite yummy (even Lucy couldn’t keep her eyes off them, and we had to wipe drool from her mouth!). The next time we visit, we plan to try their mini burgers which we also heard good things about. Green Door serves mains too. Some of their favorites are the roasted eggplant pizza and TGD wagyu beef burger. Mmmm…

Dempsey-17

      Can’t I just have a lick?

Dempsey-20

Pretty terrace where guests may also be seated at.

Dempsey-14

I’ll be back with my friends!

We’ll definitely be back with the TFT crew. Hopefully, Green Door will be just as friendly to all our dogs (that’s the real test!).

Green Door is located at 13A Dempsey Road, Dempsey Hill. Opening hours: Sun-Thur 5pm-midnight, Fri & Sat 5pm-1am. Happy Hour: Daily 5pm-8pm, Brunch Sunday 1pm-5pm.

Kith Cafe at Park Mall

The Furry Tales head to Kith at Park Mall every once in awhile because it is within walking distance from Fort Canning Park which we enjoy quite often. And we are usually ravenous by the time we are done with our walk or sometimes doga in the park, so Park Mall (Penang Road) is as far as we can go without fainting from hunger.

Kith at Park Mall has a much more extensive menu than the one at Robertson Quay, with a more chi chi vibe. It is a little pricier too but the food is really decent with daily lunch specials.

_MG_6344

Super yummy squid ink lunch special

We like Kith because it is shaded and they provide our dogs with bowls of water without us having to ask (extra points for loving our pooches!). There’s also quite a lot of space in their alfresco area so even when we go with 4-6 dogs, we don’t feel like we are imposing on other patrons who may not like dogs.

_MG_6352

We were so ready to tuck into this well-presented food! (But no, had to take pictures first.) Top left: salmon salad with avocado. Top right: squid ink pasta. Bottom: aglio olio

Kith is located at Penang Road #01-01E, Park Mall. Open 8am – 10pm Tuesday to Sunday (closed on Monday). Reservations may be made at (+65) 6338 8611.

Trendy Soi 60

SISI (11 of 12)

Chic and trendy indoor seating.

The Furry Tales have found another dog-friendly eatery at our home ground, Robertson Quay. It is contemporary Thai restaurant and bar, Soi 60. This chic place along the Singapore River serves Thai food. It’s not cheap (S$22 for a plate of Pad Thai), but we’ve liked what we’ve tried so far. The basil chicken with rice was pretty good, and so were the chicken wings.

But mostly, we like it because it’s a new option for our dogs to come along with us. We heard that the food plays second fiddle to the drinks although we have yet to try them. Let us know if you do! The alfresco is spacious and allows your dog to sit comfortably, and people-watch at the same time. They even serve your dog with a bowl of water without you asking – thumbs up for that!

Alfresco seating: Lucy blocking the way.

So if you’re in the area and feel like Thai food, but don’t want to leave your pooch at home, you can try Soi 60. Located at: 6o Robertson Quay, 01-04 The Quayside, Singapore 238252. Opening hours: Mon-Fri 5.30pm-late, Sat-Sun 12 noon-late.

A Date at Sin Lee Foods

SISI (9 of 40)

Hipsters Lucy, Cotton and Lady-Mae hanging out in front of Sin Lee.

Sin Lee Foods has been around for a few months now and we were all dying to try it. According to Sin Lee’s owner, the cafe used to be a store selling prawn noodles and now they’ve just kept the signboard, name and old school charm. We loved it.

SISI (27 of 40)

Cotton and Lucy: we love it too, nice view from up here!

We went on a Sunday morning and were pleased to find it reasonably crowded without being packed like sardines. We sat in their alfresco area which was extremely comfortable because of the shade and powerful fans provided.

First thing we did was order the much-talked-about salted egg sweet potato fries topped with curry leaves. To our disappointment at first, they had run out of sweet potatoes so they replaced it with criss cut fries. Once we tasted it, we were so happy. It was SO addictive. Three of us shared one dish. We recommend that you order one to yourself and not share.

SISI (34 of 40)

Salted egg criss cut fries.

We also ordered waffles with coconut gelato, spam fries as well as the Mackermore (spanish mackerel with roasted corn and lap cheong). The spam fries were good although we much preferred the salted egg fries. The waffles weren’t fabulous but we quite liked the gelato. If you prefer a healthier option, Charissa said the mackerel dish was very good. Their dishes are not cheap and we had a few hits and misses, but the salted egg fries, Papa Palheta coffee, yummy gelato, friendly staff and big powerful fans made up for it.

Sin Lee Foods is great for dogs because their alfresco area is shady and cool. The dogs are kept relatively comfortable and the wait staff are friendly to them. They even allowed Cotton and Lucy to share a romantic drink together on their bar tables. We hope Kafka does not read this.

SISI (15 of 40)

That coffee hit the spot. We can go now, mamas!

Overall, we enjoyed our brunch there and will definitely go back with our dogs to try the other dishes on their menu.

It’s a date!

Sin Lee Foods is at Blk 4 Jalan Bukit Swee Ho, #01-164, Singapore 162004. Opening hours: 10am-9pm (Tues-Sun), closed Mon except PH. It is located at the void deck of a HDB block and can be a bit difficult to find, so if you don’t live around the area, the closest landmark is probably the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB).

Book Cafe

Book Cafe is one of The Furry Tales’ regular haunts for a nice breakfast. Located at Robertson Quay, Book Cafe provides magazines, books and comfortable couches for you to spend your afternoon leisurely reading along with food and coffee. Obviously, only their alfresco area is dog-friendly. Good enough for us!

IMG_1842

This section of Book Cafe is dog friendly.

Book Cafe has free wifi, electrical power points and street parking right in front of them, so there are many plus points to coming here. Sometimes we bring our laptops to do our work here.

IMG_1844

Our friend Alan’s little bird kept Lucy occupied an entire brunch.

We’ve tried most of their food, from both the breakfast/brunch and main selections (which are only available from 11am). While their food is nothing special, their other perks keep us coming back and we are more than happy to be regular patrons. Our dogs also get a nice bowl of water, so they are happy campers.

Yummy and Affordable: Ah Chiang’s Porridge

We head to Ah Chiang’s several times a month with our dogs. Located at a corner shop lot in Tiong Bahru, they serve simple and delicious local fare. We always go for the porridge/congee with dough fritters and a side of raw fish slices. Mmmm…

IMG_3619

Minced pork ball porridge, dough fritters and raw fish slices.

The seating is mainly outdoors and right next to the sidewalk, so we let our dogs sit on the sidewalk or under the table.

IMG_3622

Lulu is sun tanning while the mamas go to the counter to order.

There is plenty of roadside parking. If we are lucky, we even get to park right next to our table so the dogs can hang out by the car too.

IMG_6358

Lucy and Leto enjoy the roadside parking.

After the local (and very affordable) breakfast, we like to grab a coffee nearby (Forty Hands, Tiong Bahru Bakery or Orange Thimble) and end off at Foodie Marketplace to get the week’s supply of meats for the dogs.

Ah Chiang’s is located at 65 Tiong Poh Road and are open daily from 6.30am to 11.30pm. Oh, their smooth beancurd is also worth a quick mention for a cold dessert.

Three Buns

Contributed by Sisi Soh

IMG_5181

Potato Head Folk

The famous Bali Potato Head has made its way to Singapore. Potato Head Folk is a four-level concept place. The first and second floors hold “Three Buns,” a burger joint and also my dinner destination that evening. The second floor of Three Buns is decorated by David Bromley’s renowned whimsical style. Unfortunately, because we had Lucy with us, we couldn’t go upstairs to check it out. The third floor holds Lounge 1939, a drinking den of sorts. Finally, there is a laid-back rooftop bar.

Our street level dining experience was of a low-key hawker-chic vibe where you order over the counter and can see the chefs behind the counter.

IMG_5162

Alfresco seating

The burgers of Three Buns claim to be made with the finest quality of meats , bespoke artisan buns and homemade sauces. The boyfriend ordered the Baby Huey burger (S$20.00), a 150g prime beef patty with cheese, lettuce, homemade sauce and spiced mayo. I ordered the kid sized burger. I got a shock when mine arrived because other than the patty being slightly thinner, it was still huge.

IMG_5191

The “kid sized” burger

I’m not a burger person, but they were delicious. Juicy, and so so tasty. The buns were soft and fluffy. As I type this, I am craving it again. The burgers don’t come with sides so we also ordered the Naughty fries (S$9.00), thickly sliced potatoes with chilli con carne. It was SO GOOD. The next time I go, I’m not sharing. I’m not!
IMG_5173

While Three Buns welcomes dogs, in my opinion, it is not the most ideal place to bring your dog. Unless your dog is small and can sit under the table like Lucy, sitting on one side of your table blocks the main pathway and sitting on the other means they’ve fallen out onto the road.

IMG_5187

Mama, I can’t see!

However, if you’re just headed there for a quick bite and can’t bear to leave your pooch at home (like me), then I think it is ok. Just make sure your dog pees/poops beforehand because we didn’t see any grass patches in the area.

Three Buns @ Potato Head Folk. 36 Keong Saik Road, Singapore 089143. Opening hours: Tuesday-Sunday 11.00am-midnight.

Brunetti Loves Dogs

Brunetti at Tanglin Mall loves dogs and they are popular for their desserts (gelato, macaroons and pastries).

One section of their alfresco area has a huge sign saying “Pet Friendly Corner.” Nothing makes us feel more welcome than the effort of making dog owners feel there’s a place for us. There are also large fans which cool the place so it really is quite a pleasant place to chill out with friends (and dogs). Since the outdoor area is not near any other establishment (and is rather quiet on weekday afternoons), it is also good for dogs that bark or are reactive to heavy human traffic.

IMG_5215

We love this!

IMG_5216

The pet friendly corner.

We tried the Italian Pan Eggs (S$15.90), a Chicken Scalopinni (S$19.90) and a mixed salad (S$16.90). We found the food average. Their strawberry tarts and almond croissant were better. Next time, we want to try their ice-cream and macaroons!

We would definitely come back here because it is such a nice place to chill – quiet, breezy and you don’t have to worry about people coming up to your dog or worry about your dog disturbing other patrons because non-pet tables are on the other end.

Brunetti is located at 163 Tanglin Road, Tanglin Mall #01-35. Singapore 247933. Opening hours are Monday-Thursday 8.00am-9.00pm, Friday-Saturday 8.00am-10.00pm, Sunday 8.00am-9.00pm.
